At the start of every shift, the Captain — serving as the Pilot in emergency medical missions — leads a team briefing to ensure strong crew resource management and clear communication across the team, and to discuss the logistical aspects of the shift.

Objective Safety Assessment in Pre-Mission Planning
Before any mission is accepted, the Pilot carefully assesses weather conditions, flight times, and operational factors to determine whether the flight can be conducted safely. At this stage, the Pilot does not receive details of the patient’s clinical condition, allowing for a fully objective safety decision.
Ensuring Safe Missions with Expert Fuel Planning and BARS Accreditation
Fuel planning is also a critical responsibility, ensuring the aircraft has sufficient fuel to complete the mission safely from start to finish. Our aviation partner, Henley Air, is BARS accredited — an internationally recognised aviation safety standard.
Pilot in Emergency Medical Missions Responsibility for Safety and Transport During Mission
Throughout the mission, the Captain remains fully responsible for the safety of the aircraft, crew, and patient, while ensuring safe transport to the receiving hospital.
